5 Mistakes ESL Students Need to Avoid

All English learners tend to make some mistakes at some time or another. Most of these mistakes made by the students can be easily avoided. Speaking very fast:
It is one of the most common mistakes made by all the students who are not a native speaker of the English language. Speaking fast is not a solution to improve English speaking skills. It is very important for non native English speakers to speak clearly and slowly so that the people can understand what you are trying to say. Speaking English too fast will only make you sound nervous and unconvincing. ESL training will allow the students to practice the correct speed to speak English as a non-native English speaker.

Focusing on Grammar:
Only 20% of native English speakers know all the grammar rules of English. Focusing too much on grammar is a common mistake that most ESL students commit. The English language has a lot of grammar rules and trying to learn all of them is practically impossible. Focusing too heavily on grammar will slow the English speaking skills.

Focusing on Writing:

Writing in English and Speaking in English are two completely different disciplines. ESL students confuse between these two. In writing students get time to think and correct multiple times but in case of speaking they need to be spontaneous. This is why improving spoken English is more challenging and requires practice.

Memorizing vocabulary:

To improve the speaking skills in English learning a lot of words and increasing the vocabulary is useless. The best way to improve vocabulary is having spoken English lesson through real life conversation. Learning vocabulary is a simple waste of energy because there is no use until one does not knows how to use those vocabularies in real life conversation.

Lack of practice with native English speakers:

Trying to improve spoken English without having conversations with a native English speaker is like trying to learn swimming without having access to a swimming pool. It is very important to practice English with native speakers to speak English fluently in a short period of time. Vocabularies and grammar rules will not help if one does not practice English with the native speakers.
